(f) if any mobile phones that were lost or stolen were not reported to the police, why not;
(g) what steps, if any, have been put into place with a view to eliminating, or at least reducing, these losses; and

Department of Corrective Services
(a) Three mobile phones were stolen and three mobile phones were lost.
(b) $1,086 excluding GST.
(c) Yes.
(d) Police reports were made for the three stolen phones on the following dates:
- 2 February 2007;
- 5 February 2007; and
- 17 March 2007.
Police reports were made for the three lost phones on the following dates:
- 16 February 2007;
- 30 March 2007; and
- 18 June 2007.
(e) The items reported have not been recovered.
(f) Not applicable.
(g) The Department requires that stolen and lost mobile phones be reported to the Police. The Department also requires the person reporting the incident to sign a Statutory Declaration outlining the facts surrounding the loss or theft of the mobile phone and for Managers to consider the degree of staff negligence involved in the loss of the item. Where it is determined that an individual was negligent, disciplinary action may proceed.
(h) Reporting lost mobile phones to the Police was introduced in August 2006. Completion of Statutory Declarations and consideration of any negligence involved in the loss was introduced in December 2006.
Office of the Inspector of Custodial Services
(a) 3 mobile phones were lost
(b) $533 excluding GST.

(f) The mobile phones were reported internally by officers at the time.
(g - h) Since losing the mobiles OICS has put in place two new accountability measures including registering the custodian of each mobile phone and quarterly checks on the phones. As Minister for Corrective Services I have written to the Inspector for Custodial Services requesting that all lost and stolen mobile phones be reported to the Police as a matter of course.

(a) The Small Business Development Corporation has not had any mobile phones reported lost or stolen for the six months to 30 June 2007.
(b-h) Not applicable.
