I refer to the
Premier's public comments regarding the opening date for a new youth detention
facility, which will mean that unit 18 can finally close.
(1) Why did the Premier say in December 2024 that
the new facility would be open in 2026, when internal government advice
received six months earlier stated the facility would not be ready until mid-2028?
(2) Does that mean that unit 18 will remain open
until at least mid-2028, even though every oversight body—the Coroner,
the Corruption and Crime Commission and the Inspector of Custodial Services—has
warned the model is fundamentally broken?
