I refer the minister to his letter in the Wanneroo Times of 10 June regarding the Hillarys marina and the impact of the proposed Department of Fisheries building. (1) Will the minister indicate the amount of boat trailer parking space to be lost as a result of the development, particularly during off-peak times? (2) Will the minister indicate how many car park spaces in the northern car park will be lost to the community due to staff needs? (3) Will the planned introduction of timed parking in the southern car park still proceed? (4) What will happen to groups such as the sea scouts that currently use the facilities in the northern car park area? (5) Will the minister explain why his letter did not mention the negative aspects of the development to the 100 000-plus recreational users and families who enjoy the use of the marina? I thank Hon George Cash for some notice of the question. Like the question answered by Hon Tom Stephens, this question included an unspoken endorsement of the Government’s great support for the member’s electorate. I thank the member for drawing attention to it. (1) A total of 243 public boat trailer bays will result from the Department of Fisheries development. This allocation of bays was set by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, and although it is fewer than the 285 boat trailer bays currently at Hillarys Boat Harbour, it apparently will more than cater for the maximum demand that can be generated by the boat ramps at Hillarys. The short answer to the question should have been 42. (2) Nil. In fact, an additional 140 public car parking bays will be created as part of the fisheries development. Although fisheries staff as well as the public will have access to the bays on weekdays in off-peak periods, no bays will be occupied by fisheries staff in the peak periods that occur on weekends and public holidays. This is a condition of the development approval. (3) I understand from the minister responsible that timed parking was trialled over last summer in the southern precinct of the Hillarys Boat Harbour. A decision on future timed parking has not yet been made; however, the trialling of this initiative is not related to the new fisheries development. (4) There will be no adverse effects to groups such as the sea scouts as the additional hard stand areas of the public car park will more than cater for current users. As part of the development approval, the Department of Fisheries will construct a new car park immediately adjacent to the headquarters for the use of the T.S. Marmion Sea Scout Group and the public. (5) I do not believe there are any negative aspects to the development. The new fisheries complex and the enhanced parking facilities, together with the other traffic and parking initiatives commissioned within the Hillarys Boat Harbour, particularly the northern precinct of the harbour and Whitford Nodes, are all positive aspects and will significantly improve the amenity of the marina for all visitors and users.

Hon KIM CHANCE replied : I thank Hon George Cash for some notice of the question.
