I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Between 19 January and 10 November this year the metropolitan police task force seconded to Westrail apprehended a total of 1 358 people. Of that figure, 393 were juveniles. These juveniles were taken into police custody under the provisions of section 138(b) of the Child Welfare Act, as children in need of care and protection in the opinion of the apprehending police. Of the remaining 965, some were arrested, released on bail and appeared in court, and others received summonses compelling their return to court at a later date. Due to time constraints, I have not been able to obtain a breakdown of specific categories. This information can be supplied later. (2) This information is not available through the Western Australia Police Service and will need to be obtained from the Minister for Transport.
