Homelessness—St Bart's—Women's service
80. Hon Dr Brad Pettitt to the Minister for Homelessness:
I refer to a St
Bart's media release of 1 April 2025 regarding the upcoming closure of the
women's service, which stated it had:
Worked through options with the
Department of Communities to ensure the continued delivery of our Womens
Service, but despite St Bart's efforts, we have been unsuccessful in securing
the funds we need to acquire a new site.
(1) What will the WA government do to help St
Bart's acquire a new site for the women's service and prevent its closure at
the end of financial year?
(2) How does the WA government plan to fill this
gap in services once the women's service ceases operation?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1) The Department of Communities was informed in
November 2024 by St Bart's of its intention to redevelop the St Bart's Service
site where the women's service operates from. St Bart's advises that the
demolition of the East Perth property was planned to commence from July 2025. The
women's service is not included in future development plans for the
site.
(2) Communities is actively engaging with another
service provider to transition the women's service to an alternative provider
by 1 July 2025, in accordance with the WA procurement rules. Every woman currently
housed at the St Bart's facilities who would like to continue receiving
services will continue to have access to safe and suitable accommodation and
access to support services.
