(b) can more weighting be given to school-based marks for students from those schools where Les Murray was studied as part of the English Literature course; (c) while recognising that students can lodge a misadventure claim if they believe that they have been disadvantaged, this claim must be lodged before results are made known, is it possible for such a claim to be lodged by affected students after their results are presented, thereby saving many students from having to lodge a claim unnecessarily if their marks are satisfactory; and (d) could an appeal system be put in place for students whose English Literature score is marginal for entry into a tertiary institution, so that they are able to seek a review of their marking?

(b) Students who are granted special consideration will have an estimated result calculated from their school marks. In effect, school marks will have 100% weighting. (c) Applications must be lodged by 28 November, in time for the scheduled annual meeting of the Sickness/Misadventure Committee. If a student who is granted special consideration actually achieves at a higher level than the estimated result, the estimated mark will not be used. (d) The procedure for estimating results does not make use of marked examination scripts, so it would not be necessary to review the marking.

(a) On 14 November, students were sent an application form for special consideration with a pre-paid return envelope to facilitate its return. The Curriculum Council's Sickness/Misadventure procedure will be used to grant special consideration. All affected schools have been sent details of this procedure. All students will have an examination mark calculated for them. This will be based on their school marks.
