(1) Is the Minister aware that the National Farmers’ Federation has submitted a Labour Shortage Action Plan with 42 recommendations, to the Federal Employment and Workplace Relations Minister and the Federal Agriculture Minister?
(2) Is the Minister aware that a key member of the Federal Government’s reference group to review the temporary work visa scheme has reportedly stated that chronic labour shortage is a bigger issue in Western Australia than in the rest of Australia?
(3) Will the Western Australian Government encourage the Federal Government to support the NFF Plan?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) If yes to (3), what support will be provided by the Western Australian Government?
(6) Given that the temporary work visa reference group is due to report in April, what commitment has the Western Australian Government given to work with the Federal Government in implementing their recommendations?

1. Yes.

3. The State Government has been working with the Federal Government on the issue of labour shortages and in particular migration into Western Australia to address the shortages, not only in the agricultural sector, but across all sectors impacted upon by the current shortages. The State Government will be supportive of initiatives that benefit the state whilst at the same time maintain the protections that we must have in relation to both imported labour as well as the domestic market.

6. The State Government recently welcomed Federal Government measures to improve Australia's 457 temporary skilled migration program following a report of the External Reference Group.
The State Government has already demonstrated it's commitment to working with the Federal Government to find solutions to the labour shortages here in Western Australia. The State Government has led the way in relation to reforms to the 457 visa process and we are committed to continuing this process.
