I refer to change in speed limit along Tonkin Highway, in particular the section between Leach Highway and Dunreath Drive, where the speed limit has recently been reduced from 100 kilometres per hour to 80 kilometres per hour, and ask: (a) when did the speed limit change from 100 kilometres per hour to 80 kilometres per hour; (b) were any measures taken to alert road users to this change in speed limit, and if yes, what were these measures; and (c) was this change in speed limit gazetted, and if not, why not?

The
Main Roads Western Australia
advises:
(a) The change was implemented during the construction of the new Dunreath Drive / Tonkin Highway signalised intersection, which was opened on 16 April 2012.
(b) Appropriate 80 km/h speed limit signs were used to advise motorists of the change in speed limit.
(c) No. Changes to speed limit signs are approved under the Road Traffic Code by the Commissioner of Main Roads or his delegate and do not require gazettal.
