267. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the Minister
for Education:
(1) Is the
minister aware that the state education ministers in Victoria and the
Australian Capital Territory have committed to fund the Safe Schools program in
their states should the federal government withdraw funding after 2017?
(2) Has the
minister met with representatives from the Safe Schools Coalition WA at any
stage; and, if yes, when?
(3) If no to (2), why not?
(4) Is the
minister aware that eight schools in WA have signed up to the Safe Schools
Coalition during the past four weeks, the most schools in the shortest time
since the SSC started in WA, bringing the total number to 27?

Officers of the Department of Education have met with representatives from the
Safe Schools Coalition.
(4) Schools have
the flexibility to choose resources that suit the context of their teaching and
learning environments. I am aware that 27 schools out of 1 117 schools in Western
Australia have registered with the Safe Schools Coalition Australia. School
membership and engagement with the SSCA is voluntary, and all the services and
resources are used at the discretion of each school.
