(1) Can the Parliamentary Secretary advise how many Protection of Flora Reserves there are in Western Australia and provide a list of each one and their locations? (2) What is the total area of all Protection of Flora Reserves in Western Australia and the area of each individual Reserve? (3) Are all Protection of Flora Reserves quarantined from mining exploration and/or mineral extraction? (4) If no to (3), which Protection of Flora Reserves allow mining and/or mineral extraction and why? (5) Are all Protection of Flora Reserves quarantined from oil and gas exploration and/or oil and gas extraction? (1) There are four reserves with a purpose of protection of flora. These reserves have a tenure category of nature reserve under section 5(1)(d) of the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 . The four reserves are:
Sheeman Creek Nature Reserve – South Coast region
Beekeepers Nature Reserve – Midwest region
Un-named Nature Reserve – Midwest region
Un-named Nature Reserve – Midwest region
(2) The total area of nature reserves with the purpose of protection of flora in Western Australia is 66,530 hectares, being Sheeman Creek Nature Reserve (416 hectares), Beekeepers Nature Reserve (66,058 hectares), un-named Nature Reserve (1 hectare) and un-named Nature Reserve (54 hectares).
(3) No.
(4) All public reserves are subject to the statutory provisions relating to consent for mining and grant of mining leases by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum, as set out in the Mining Act 1978.
(5) No.
(6) All public reserves are subject to the statutory processes relating to consent for entry to reserves for petroleum activities as set out in the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967.
(7) No.
(8) Increases to the area of existing nature reserves occur from time to time for a range of reasons, across the State.
