Women's walk trail—Fremantle Cemetery
226. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the minister representing the Minister for Women:
I thank the minister
for her response yesterday referring me to her colleague the Minister for Local
Government. I am in search of clarification.
(1) Does the minister stand by the quotes
she gave to PerthNow on the subject of the
women's history trail being established in Fremantle Cemetery; namely, that it
is "an opportunity for these remarkable women to be acknowledged,
celebrated and remembered"?
(2) Can the minister explain why it is
appropriate for her to speak on behalf of the government in the local press but
not to treat this house with the same courtesy when asked a question on the
self-same subject?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Women.
(1)–(2) The historical women's walk is a matter
for the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board and the Minister for Local Government. I
stand by my comments acknowledging, celebrating and remembering the women who
have influenced Western Australia's history.
