970. Hon Nick Goiran to
the minister representing the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to Western
Australia's working with children check scheme.
(1) Has the minister
received any concerns about the scope of the scheme and any requests that it be
expanded to employers of apprentices under the age of 18?
(2) If yes to (1), will the minister table the
most recent briefing note she has received about this issue?

I thank the Leader
of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Child Protection. I note that it was current
as of 12 August, the date it was asked. The Department of Communities advises
the following.
(1)–(2) The state government is aware of
some concerns regarding the scope of the working with children scheme and the
definition of "child-related work". A consultation paper on phase 2
of the working with children check reforms will be released later this year.
