I have given no notice of this question. In relation to question without notice 306 asked on 11 October 2000 asking for evidence, I seek leave to table the evidence required and ask - (1) Since 20 September 1999 to the present day, how many times have staff or employees in the minister’s Kalgoorlie office faxed, emailed by computer or mailed by mail, notices of any Liberal Party branch/division meetings, agenda for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder branch and other branches of the Liberal Party, or any other Liberal Party branch/division documents - (a) to the minister’s office in Perth; (b) to state and federal members of Parliament; (c) to other Liberal Party members; and (d) to the Liberal Party of Australia WA Division? (2) When the minister confirms the number of times Liberal Party business has been carried out from his ministerial office, will he seek to have the Liberal Party reimburse the public purse? [See paper No 378.] Hon N.F. MOORE

(1)-(2) I am a little bemused. The member asked a question last week about whether somebody in my office had been engaged in Liberal Party activities. I said that to the best of my knowledge they had not, but if he had any evidence to the contrary, could he provide it to me. I gather the papers he tabled a moment ago are the evidence. How I am supposed to respond to his question without seeing the so-called evidence is beyond me. As I said before, and I repeat, to the best of my knowledge, without any evidence being provided to me to the contrary, no person in my ministerial office has been engaged in Liberal Party activities. If the member would like to provide me with a copy of what he has tabled, I might be able to respond more accurately. The PRESIDENT: That will be done. The Leader of the House can consider it and come back to it. Hon N.F. MOORE: My concern is that a bad smell is hanging around here that needs to be dispensed with. I am concerned that allegations are being made and I do not have a chance to see any evidence of what the allegations happen to be. I might stand here until I get a copy of what has been tabled so that I can look at it. It seems that we have some faxes with the Minister for Mines’ fax number at the top. I shall look at these very carefully. If what this appears to be is correct - a couple of the faxes have nothing on the top and are nothing to do with the Minister for Mines’ office - I will take the necessary action to ensure that the person involved is advised that that is not supposed to happen.
