C-series trains
215. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the
safety concerns raised by train drivers and the Rail, Tram and Bus Union regarding
the C-series railcars.
(1) Are any C-series railcars currently out of
operation due to unscheduled maintenance, faults or technical or mechanical
issues?
(2) If yes, how many are out of operation?
(3) What is the reason behind them being pulled
from service?

(1)–(3) There are no C-series railcars pulled
from service. Regular maintenance happens, and that continues for all series:
A-series, B-series and C-series. This is quite interesting. Of course, today,
the opposition has realised what question time is about. Remember the matter of
public interest yesterday? The Leader of the Opposition is so concerned about
this issue that yesterday he devoted an hour of time to a boxing event that is
not happening. That was the MPI yesterday. Look at this acting! It is just
incredible. Look at him. This is his listening face. He has been told, "You've
got to listen." But he is overacting. For his listening face, he does not
need to look like that. Ratchet it down. This is not a cross from Sunrise . I mean, in yesterday's MPI—I do
not know if anyone heard the MPI—he said, "You should've
interfered in bare-knuckle boxing, but you didn't interfere, but I think you
should've, did you interfere? You shouldn't have." It was like he was
asking talkback callers to ring up and give us views on what is happening. It
was not prosecuting a case.
Point of order
Mr Liam Staltari: Point of order, Mr Speaker.
Mr Daniel Pastorelli interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Landsdale, I call you to order
for the first time. You know that points of order are heard in silence. Member
for Carine.
Mr Liam Staltari: Thank you, Mr Speaker. I refer to
standing order 78 on relevance. We are a very long way away from the very
specific questions on C-series trains that were asked by the Leader of the
Opposition.
The Speaker: I will uphold that point of order.
Minister, you are building a bit of a background to your response. If you can
get back to the question, that would be great.
Questions without notice resumed
Ms Rita Saffioti: As I said, regular maintenance is
undertaken on the C-series trains, as there is on the B-series and A-series. That
often happens, so trains continually go through regular maintenance. As I said,
the Leader of the Opposition was so concerned about this that yesterday he
devoted an hour to an event that is not happening. I do not think he was
actually serious about this. Anyway, I will hear from his supp.
