EXTINCTION REBELLION —
SOLIDARITY PARK OCCUPATION
54. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the minister representing
the Minister for Lands:
I refer to the land on the corner of
Parliament Place and Harvest Terrace, commonly referred to as Solidarity Park.
(1) Who owns this land and who, if
anybody, exercises control over it?
(2) Has the
government sanctioned the occupation of the site since Monday, 10 February by a
group calling itself Extinction Rebellion; and, if so, on what terms?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Lands.
(1) Solidarity
Park is a class A reserve owned by the Crown acting through the state of Western
Australia, set aside for the purpose of heritage park. The land is held under a
management order to UnionsWA Inc, pursuant to section 46 of the Land
Administration Act 1997.
(2) The
management order gives care, control and management of Solidarity Park to
UnionsWA Inc, and as such UnionsWA is responsible for the site.
