I thank the member for some notice of this question. I am sure the member is asking this question on behalf of a large number of constituents who have concerns about these matters and no-one else. I know the member will enjoy the answer and understand it very quickly. (1) A Multanova is set to AS2898.1 and AS2898.2 Australian standards radar speed detection 1992. Multanovas are calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions as contained in the specifications manual, subject to non-disclosure agreements and copyright. Equipment is monitored throughout the operation by a qualified operator, and confidence testing is conducted at regular intervals throughout the operation by a comparison with a certified hand-held radar not manufactured or supplied by Multanova; that is, independent comparison of its accuracy with another certified device. (2) The Police Service advises that this is a police operational matter and, as such, information concerning the minimum tolerance level allowed for by police will not be disclosed.
