PRISON
OFFICERS — ENTERPRISE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
633. Mr F.M. LOGAN to the Minister for Corrective Services:
I have a supplementary question. I understand that this year
alone there were 74 assaults on prison officers in our jails. Does the minister
think prison officers are entitled to $1.50 per hour for their work?

AnswerView source ↗

If members recall, this government introduced legislation
into this place to protect our police officers. Anyone who assaults a police
officer will go to jail. That provision was also expanded to prison officers.
Anyone who assaults a prison officer will get an extended prison term,
something that demonstrates tangible support for our prison officers.
Mr F.M. Logan : Are
they worth an extra $1.50 an hour?
Mr M.J. COWPER :
What will be negotiated, will be negotiated. We will negotiate as we did in
2010 in a fair and appropriate manner.
