(a) For the purposes of this response, 'termination of pregnancy procedures' has been defined as a medical abortion. According to the Hospital Morbidity Data Collection (HMDC), there were 81 hospital separations for medical abortions with complications in 2014.
(b) Of the 81 medical abortion separations recorded in the HMDC:
· 10 separations for medical abortions were complicated by genital tract and pelvic infection;
· 42 separations for medical abortions were complicated by delayed or excessive haemorrhage; and
· 29 separations for medical abortions had other or unspecified complications.
