The 2001-2002 Budget Statement revealed that 100 police officers and 10 Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers had been recruited above attrition. In his May 2003 Budget Speech the Treasurer stated that 115 police officers had been recruited since the Labor Party came to office as part of Labor’s election promise of 250 new officers. In regards to these figures could the Minister please advise -
(1) Why page 80 of the WA Police Service Annual Report shows that the actual number of sworn members of the police force have actually declined from 4 993 as at June 30 2001 to 4 955 at the same time in 2002?
(2) Why there were 73 less recruits in training in mid-2002 than at the same time in 2001?
(3) Whether the Government is meeting its promise to deliver additional officers above the attrition rate?
(4) If not, what is the Government doing to rectify this matter?
(5) How many Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers have been recruited above attrition since Labor came to office in 2001?
