I thank the Independent member for Kalgoorlie for the question. I advise the member that this government is looking after him far better than the previous government looked after the former member for Kalgoorlie. I will just explain a bit of the history of the proposed upgrade for Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital. The Labor government promised a $30 million upgrade in February 2005. The member for Albany will be familiar with this story. In 2005, what happened? Nothing. Later in 2005, the Labor government promised an additional $10 million to bring the total amount to $40 million. By September 2005, still nothing had happened. In 2006-07, Labor budgeted $40 million, and still nothing happened. In 2007-08, the same—nothing happened. In 2008-09, the same. So, after four years of Labor government promises to upgrade Kalgoorlie hospital, absolutely nothing happened. Members will know that this government made a commitment during the election campaign to immediately begin the process of upgrading Kalgoorlie hospital, which had been delayed for so long by the former Labor Government. We also increased the funding for that upgrade, with money from royalties for regions, to $55.8 million. I am very pleased to advise the member for Kalgoorlie that the first tender has been let, and work will commence next week on the forward works to make sure that Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital gets the upgrade that it so richly deserves.
