MULTICULTURALISM - TEACHERS’ RESOURCE KIT
I refer to page 1205 of the Budget Statements for 2007-08 which lists major achievements for 2006-07 in the promotion and support of multiculturalism in Western Australia. What has happened to the major initiative of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, listed on page 97 of the Budget Statements for 2006-07; that is, the teachers’ resource kit that will be piloted in two schools? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. It was anticipated that the teachers’ resource kit would be piloted in two schools during 2006-07, as previously advised in response to question without notice 1613 of 2006. The Office of Multicultural Interests met with the Department of Education and Training to discuss the teachers’ resource kit in 2006. The Department of Education and Training advised that, rather than pilot the kit in its current format, material from the kit would be better suited for inclusion into a program of learning placed on the DET syllabus development and resources directorate website. OMI is working with DET to achieve this outcome.
