MORTGAGE STRESS —
CHRIS BOWEN'S COMMENTS
393. Mr D.C. NALDER to the Premier:
Does the Premier support the
comments made by the shadow Treasurer, Chris Bowen, that it does not matter if
home owners slip into negative equity; and, if not, why does he continue to
support a policy that by Chris Bowen's on admission will drive even
more Western Australian home owners deeper into negative equity at a time when
one in six own more on their mortgage than is the value of their property?

I think the member might be
verballing the national shadow Treasurer. I think that some serious misleading
is going on across the country about whatever Mr Bowen has said. I will attempt
to find out exactly what he said so that I can respond to the member.
Nationally, Labor has created a coherent
set of policies and identified how it will fund them—that is what has happened. The Liberals have entered into a dirty
deal with Clive Palmer, who is a threat to jobs in Western Australia . In
Queensland, the Liberals and Nationals are preferencing One Nation. The
National Party across Australia is preferencing One Nation and the Liberals and
Nationals have this bizarre arrangement in which they are fighting each other
for the same votes, as we have seen in New South Wales.
Ms M.J. Davies interjected.
The SPEAKER : Leader of the
National Party!
Mr M. McGOWAN : There is a rabble
in the conservative side of Australian politics—that is what is
happening. We had Tony Abbott —
An opposition member interjected.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Even the member would not support him,
would he?
Mr P.A. Katsambanis interjected.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Exactly! He
would not support him either. No-one supports Tony Abbott being elected. Then
we have Peter Dutton who attacks people with disabilities as part of his effort
to hold his seat. The conservative side of politics in Australia needs a turn
in opposition.
