With reference to logging in our native forest -
(1) Can the Minister confirm that the number of management letters received by the Forest Products Commission (FPC) from the Department of the Environment and Conservation (previously Conservation and Land Management) for non-compliant logging activities that could not be rectified rose from 11 in 2004-05to 26 in 2005-06 representing an increase of 136 percent?
(2) If no to (1), what is the figure?
(3) If the figure has increased, what is the FPC’s explanation for such an increase?
(4) What plans does the FPC have to reduce instances of non-rectifiable non-compliant activities?
(5) Would the Minister please table the management letters for the two years in question?

(4) The FPC monitors and responds to all environmental incidents through its Environmental Management System (EMS), which is accredited under the international standard ISO 14001. Through this system, the FPC self-reports more incidents than are raised by external sources, including DEC, demonstrating its commitment to sound environmental management and continual improvement. (5) Given the developmental nature of the system at the time, I see no value in releasing the MLs. However, the monitoring of forest operations, including the use of WINs and MLs, is reported each year in DEC's Annual Report. The FPC also reports on environmental incidents as part of its annual reporting process.
