CORRECTIVE SERVICES —
CUSTODY CELLS — LIGATURE POINTS
353. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Minister for Corrective Services:
I have a supplementary question. How
many deaths will it take before the minister's department fully
implements all the recommendations made by that inquiry?

I think it is a pretty sad
indictment of the opposition if it views tragic circumstances as a political
opportunity and some way to criticise an agency that is doing a tough job and
confronting a really challenging environment. They are people. Noting the Corruption
and Crime Commission report tabled today, the member might reflect on some of
the behaviour of and commentary made by people on his side of politics
following that tragic incident and consider the impact on the people he is
directly criticising, across an agency, who confront daily challenges the likes
of which he and I probably never have, and probably never will, confront. I think
that is pretty poor form. It is not really a surprise, I guess, because that is
about the standard that the member has demonstrated throughout his time as
Leader of the Opposition.
