STATE SCHOOL TEACHERS - PAY OFFER
Yesterday I asked the minister what would be the cost to the government of the offer made to the State School Teachers’ Union of WA for teacher pay increases, and the answer was that the minister was not at liberty to disclose the amount. Bearing in mind that the government’s offer requires the use of a significant quantum of taxpayers’ money, why is the minister not at liberty to disclose the amount? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for the question. As I explained yesterday, we are in a negotiation process. What has been put on the table may not be accepted by the membership. Hon Norman Moore : No. What did you offer; that is what I am asking. How much is your offer worth? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH : It is irrespective of what was offered because there is no arrangement until such time as the offer has been accepted. Hon Norman Moore interjected. The PRESIDENT : Order, Leader of the Opposition! The minister should answer the question. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH : Three questions were asked of me yesterday. I provided that information and I do not intend to change the answer that I provided to the member yesterday. The simple fact is that I explained then and I explain now that until such time as the matter is resolved, there is no quantum offer and the matter is confidential.
