I refer to the Government’s regional investment fund. (1) Has the Government allocated all of the $25 million budgeted for the 2001-02 year under that regional investment fund? (2) If not, how much has not been allocated, and when will it be allocated? (3) How did the Government decide which projects were eligible to be funded through the regional investment fund? Hon TOM STEPHENS

(1)-(3) In contradistinction to the interjection of Hon Barry House, it is not, as he suggests, by virtue of resorting to a whiteboard, but through a well-formulated policy that has been put into effect by the cabinet standing committee on regional policy, chaired by the Premier. All of the $25 million will be broken up into three separate categories. The first of those is for a contestable fund that will be available through the development commissions, with an allocation of $400 000 to each of those commissions in the first year. The guidelines for the remaining two components are to be further considered by Cabinet. I expect that a decision will be made on those fairly soon and will be widely made available.
