LOCAL GOVERNMENT — AMALGAMATIONS —
BOLD PARK AGREEMENT
1367. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the minister
representing the Minister for Local Government:
I refer to the $11.5 million
allocated in the 2010 Government Mid-year
Financial Projections Statement for the Bold Park Agreement—Town of
Cambridge.
(1) Did the Local
Government Advisory Board give any consideration to which local government will
receive this money following the forced amalgamation of the City of Subiaco and
Town of Cambridge?
(2) If yes to (1), what was its view
and why?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) Considering
the payment relates to the rezoning and sale of a portion of what is known as
area G at the corner of Stephenson Avenue and Montgomery Avenue, Mt Claremont,
does the minister support this money being paid to the local government that
this area will reside in following the amalgamations?
(5) If no to (4), why not?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1)–(3) The
independent Local Government Advisory Board's role is to provide advice
to the Minister for Local Government on local government constitutional
matters, including making recommendations on optimum district boundaries and
representation. In assessing proposals, the board must take specific factors
into consideration, including community of interest, physical and topographic
features, demographic trends, economic factors, the history of the area,
transport and communication, matters affecting the viability of local
governments and the effective delivery of local government services. The
minister has accepted the board's recommendation for a merger of the
Town of Cambridge and City of Subiaco.
(4) Any matters
concerning the operation of the Cambridge Endowment Lands Act 1920 will be a
matter for the relevant portfolio—that is, the Minister for Lands.
(5) Not applicable.
