LAKE JASPER PROJECT
I refer to the Lake Jasper Project, which is funded by the Department for Community Development and was set up to deal with young Aboriginal children in a residential setting as an alternative to custody. (1) How many children are being educated at this institution and what are their ages? (2) Do these children go to school in Nannup or are they learning by distance education? (3) If they do not go to school in Nannup, do they have any interaction with the Nannup school? (4) Are teachers employed to supervise their education? (5) Who is currently monitoring the progress of these children? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) Currently one 14-year-old male student is enrolled at the Schools of Isolated and Distance Education. (2) The student is enrolled at SIDE and has no contact with Nannup District High School. Educational delivery through SIDE is the preferred model for the Lake Jasper Project manager. (3) The current enrolled student has visited Nannup District High School once to access the Ribbons of Blue/Waterwatch WA coordinator. (4) A private tutor who is a registered teacher is employed by the project, funded by the Department for Community Development, to oversee the on-site learning program. SIDE teachers are also involved with curriculum delivery. (5) Progress is predominantly monitored by staff at SIDE, who supply the teaching and learning program with input from the on-site tutor.
