Will the minister provide information on the opposition’s most recent exercise in supporting the Howard government ripping off Western Australia? Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN
AnswerView source ↗
The opposition has had the opportunity to follow the example of Barnaby Joyce by supporting the state government on the Peel deviation. However, it has failed to do that. In fact, it has come out with a rather bizarre claim that we will put a toll road on the Peel deviation. We have no intention of doing that, but we have every intention of ensuring that the federal government does not get away with ripping off Western Australia. It was quite disgraceful this morning - Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! I call to order the member for Carine, the Leader of the Opposition and the member for Avon. Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN : It was quite disgraceful this morning when members on the opposition front bench supported the federal government’s refusal to clean up the unexploded bombs in Albany. Now the Leader of the Opposition has said that it is okay that the federal government does not work cooperatively with the state government. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : I call to order the member for Avon for the second time. Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN : I will also refer to the reds under the bed that the Leader of the Opposition claims he has found. He has said that the real reason we do not want to sign the AusLink agreement is that we are trying to protect our union mates, because there is a provision in the agreement that we sign up to the national code of conduct for the construction industry, and we do not want to sign that. We had already said to the federal government that we were prepared to sign the agreement with that provision in it. It has nothing to do with this. This is all about us not being prepared to paper over a rip-off of Western Australia once again.
