(2) Nil. The Parole Board ceased to operate on 28 January 2007. (3) The function of the DPP is to fairly present the evidence in all indictable matters in which there is a reasonable prospect of achieving a conviction. In the performance of this function he does not "win or lose". For the first quarter of 2007 (Jan - Mar): 659 cases were finalised by the DPP in the District and Supreme Courts. Of these 153 (23%) were acquittals and 506 (77%) were convictions. This figure does not include Children's Court matters. Acquittals includes acquittals at trial, death certificates (only 1 of these), and discontinuances. Convictions includes convictions at trial and guilty pleas. Of these 659 cases, 51 were acquitted by a jury and 72 were convicted by a jury.
