METRO AREA
EXPRESS LIGHT RAIL
1097. Hon MARTIN PRITCHARD to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Metro Area Express light rail and the Premier's
comments in November 2013 that the extensions, down to the Causeway and maybe ultimately
to Curtin University, the Queen Elizabeth II site, and the University of WA
could be split into a separate stage, but that decision has not been made. I
refer also to the Minister for Transport's comments yesterday that the
light rail may now run between Yagan Square and Edith Cowan University.
(1) Will the
government still construct the east–west light link through the CBD,
connecting Victoria Park and the University of WA, as part of the MAX project?
(2) If so, what is the time frame
for construction?
(3) If not, will it be constructed
in a separate stage?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1)–(3) The delivery of the MAX
light rail project remains government policy, albeit, it has been deferred for
three years from the original time frame. The government continues to explore
options for this project.
