MANGLES BAY MARINA — RSL CARAVAN PARK
LEASEHOLDERS
743. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer to the plight of
leaseholders at the RSL caravan park and memorial area, Point Peron Road,
Peron, who must leave land on 28 August 2016 to make way for geotechnical and
other preparation works related to the proposed Mangles Bay Marina development.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that the Department of Sport and Recreation, along with the
Department of Finance, undertook inspections at alternative sites in 2011, or at
any other time, with a view to relocating the park?
(2) When and on
what grounds the decision was made not to relocate the park?
(3) Has the
department offered RSL WA the use of an alternative site to compensate for the
loss of land at Point Peron Road?
(4) If yes to
(3), has this offer been accepted?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.

department has not sought an alternative site to replace the land required for
the Mangles Bay Marina development.
(2) The RSL park
managers have been aware since the lease was executed in 2002 that the
development ultimately required the site to be vacated. The department has no
capacity to relocate the park.
(3) No.
(4) Not
applicable.
