24. Hon Bob Thomas to the Minister for Transport:
With regard to expression of interest number RFP/8799 advertised in The West Australian on December 4 1999 involving a proposed communications backbone -
(1) Was a tender let and to whom was it awarded?
(2) Has the area to be considered been kept to the original Perth to Kalgoorlie and Perth to Bunbury sections?
(3) If so, why were the main great southern line and main northern line not considered?
(4) Has a decision been made for digital radio or fibre optic solution, or a combination of each?
(5) How many depots/marshalling yards will be fitted with terminations to be able to access and control sections of the proposed system?
(6) If a formal tender has not yet been let, when is it anticipated to be let?
(7) How long will it take to implement the new system?
(8) In the event of a sale of the Westrail freight system, which entity will be responsible for seeing this project to a satisfactory conclusion, Westrail, or the purchaser of the freight system?
