With regard to question on notice No. 1990 asked by Hon Giz Watson, MLC on Thursday, May 6 and answered on June 22 2004, I ask -
(1) Was it the Minister’s advice and understanding that at the time of answering that question, no mineral tenements had been applied over National Parks or nature reserves?
(2) Is the Minister aware that in the Karijini National Park, exploration leases have been applied for under Section 58(1)(b) of the

I am advised: (1) I suggest that the Hon. Member re-examine the answer given by the Minister on 22 June 2004 to see it does not prevent applications for exploration licences being received. (2) The licences have been applied for and the policy will apply. (3) Question on Notice number 1990 sought advice on whether mining leases and exploration licences in native reserves and national parks has been granted. The question the Hon. Member now asks relates to applications for mining leases and exploration licences. There is a distinct difference between the application and a grant of a mining lease and exploration licence. (4) Once the procedures in the Mining Act have been followed.

I am advised: (1) I suggest that the Hon. Member re-examine the answer given by the Minister on 22 June 2004 to see it does not prevent applications for exploration licences being received. (2) The licences have been applied for and the policy will apply. (3) Question on Notice number 1990 sought advice on whether mining leases and exploration licences in native reserves and national parks has been granted. The question the Hon. Member now asks relates to applications for mining leases and exploration licences. There is a distinct difference between the application and a grant of a mining lease and exploration licence. (4) Once the procedures in the Mining Act have been followed.
