I refer the Premier to the visit made by a senior police officer to Moora residents warning them not to present any more bricks to the Premier at public functions. (1) Can the Premier confirm that one of the people who presented him with a brick was Cynthia McMorran, who was recently announced the wheatbelt senior of the year for her energy, drive and lifelong commitment to improving services and opportunities for people in the central midlands region? (2) Can the Premier also confirm that state security unit officers were present at the public functions at which the Premier was presented with the bricks? (3) If the Premier considers senior citizens and local government officials to be such a severe threat to his safety, why did he not ask his minders to intervene at the time, rather than send a senior taxpayer-funded police officer all the way to Moora to frighten them off? (4) Will the Premier accept this genuine brick from the Moora District Hospital, which I will lay on the Table for the remainder of this day’s sitting? The SPEAKER: Members, the laying of things on the Table is generally for the edification or information of the House. The Leader of the Opposition can keep the brick on his desk, but he cannot table it. Dr G.I. GALLOP

(1)-(4) It seems that the looseness with which the Leader of the Opposition treats the facts has not changed in recent days. It is quite shameful for the Leader of the Opposition to stand in this Parliament and raise an issue about the way the Police Force in this State deals with security matters. That is a matter for the Police Service. I always accept its advice on these issues. I have never politicised these matters in my time as Leader of the Opposition or as Premier of this State. We have seen yet again why the Leader of the Opposition is not capable of properly carrying out his duties as Leader of the Opposition in this State. I have very graciously received the protesters from Moora on every occasion on which they have presented their protest to me. On every occasion I have graciously received their protest and indicated my position on this matter. I do not believe that I have not met in any shape or form my duties as the Premier of this State. Indeed, during the recess I visited the Swan Valley, Maddington, Roleystone, Armadale and Geraldton, and on each of those occasions I made it possible for people in those communities to ask questions of me as Premier of this State about a range of issues. This question reflects very poorly on the Leader of the Opposition, because he knows that I do not interfere with the work of the Police Service in this State. I take its advice on security matters. Today we live in a different world, and it is tragic that the police must advise many people in this State about security issues. The people of Moora know that on every occasion they have presented to me, I have very graciously accepted their protest. They know that is the way I go about politics. The Leader of the Opposition is yet again misleading the people of Western Australia about the facts. He has a disease - he finds himself incapable of telling the truth to the people of Western Australia.

He has a disease - he finds himself incapable of telling the truth to the people of Western Australia.
