MINISTER FOR CORRECTIVE SERVICES — BUDGET
RESPONSIBILITY
1278. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I refer to public remarks made by the Minister for Corrective
Services yesterday and, in particular, his admission of responsibility for
budget decisions that contributed to the riot at, and escape from, Greenough
Regional Prison in July this year.
(1) Is this
the first time in the 18 months of the McGowan government that a cabinet
minister has accepted personal responsibility for the resourcing and management
performance of their portfolio without first seeking
to lay blame on the previous Liberal–National government for whatever
malady has befallen them?
(2) If yes,
does this represent a turning point in the government's economic policy
and theories of public and financial administration?
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : When you are all quiet, the Minister
for Environment will provide the answer.
