I seek to leave the attachment to be tabled. See tabled paper. The statistics referred to were provided as a rough estimate to Mr Peter Robertson from the WA Forest Alliance to assist him in preparing a paper that he was writing at the time. On short notice, the Department of Conservation and Land Management provided an estimate of the number of species in these categories, using certain criteria to provide such an estimate within the time frame provided by Mr Robertson. Mr Robertson was advised of the approximate nature of these estimates. Given the conditional response discussed above, the listings of flora and fauna in these categories should be taken as considered estimations, and should not be taken as empirical listings of threatened or presumed extinct flora and fauna in the south west region (however defined). In the case of flora, the estimation is for the area roughly from Shark Bay to Cape Arid. For fauna, the estimation covers the south west Department of Conservation and Land Management regions, excluding fauna restricted to the marine environment.
