I refer to Figure 3 on page 10 of the Department of Water's 2011-2012 Annual Report, and ask —
(1) How does the figure of 43 per cent of all licensed groundwater use attributed to mining compare to the percentage of all licensed groundwater used by mining five years ago?
(2) Given that page 10 refers to expected increased demand for water from mining over time, what proportion of total licensed groundwater is mining projected to use in five years' time?

(1) 38 per cent (2009-10) and 39 per cent (2010-11). The Department of Water is unable to provide percentages for years prior to that.
(2) As much of the projected water requirements for mining over the next five years are already captured in current mining water licenses, the proportion of total licensed groundwater entitlements for the mining industry is not expected to change significantly over that period.
