I refer to my question on notice No. 3859 on 17 May 2011 and your response that additional course enrolments represent growth compared to 2008 calendar year delivery levels, and I ask -
(1) What is the figure being used as the 2008 calendar year delivery level for each of the following -
(a) TAFE;
(b) registered training organisations;
(c) apprenticeships; and
(d) traineeships?
(2) Is the Department of Training and Workforce Development able to ascertain course enrolment figures from the AVETMISS data collection as well as the Training Record System on a monthly basis as well as a quarterly basis?

(1) (a) In 2008 State Training Providers delivered 112,092 course enrolments.
(b) In 2008 private registered training organisations delivered 18,211 course enrolments.
(c) In 2008, 21,609 apprenticeship course enrolments were delivered.
(d) In 2008, 13,438 traineeship course enrolments were delivered.
(2) The two data systems are monitoring different things. The Training Record System (TRS) does not monitor course enrolments. The TRS contains information on contracts of training between employers and apprentices or trainees and their current status, such as commenced, cancelled, suspended or completed.
The Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard (AVETMISS) data collection contains information on course enrolment figures. These data have been collected in accordance with national protocols which, under current arrangements, only require data to be provided on an annual basis.
However, Western Australiacollects and validates the enrolment data four times per year.
