I refer the Minister to his press release regarding assistance for businesses in the Shire of Manjimup, dated April 23, and ask -
(1) The statement refers to ‘two measures’ for financial assistance yet applicants can only apply for one measure. Since the assistance packages are modest in size and scope, why not allow businesses access to both measures?
(2) Why are the assistance measures limited to ‘mainstreet’ shopfront businesses since many timber related businesses are not found on the mainstreet?
(3) Why is the scheme confined to Shire of Manjimup since there are other areas where businesses have been hurt by Labor’s timber industry shut down?

1. Two packages were developed to give a larger number of businesses the ability to obtain some assistance. The requirements vary across businesses and the guidelines have been designed to provide fair coverage. 2. These measures are not for 'timber related businesses'. The Industry Development Scheme applies to such businesses. 3. The assistance is provided to the Shire of Manjimup because it is the area most severely affected by the restructure of the Timber Industry.
