723. Hon DARREN WEST to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to Katanning District
Hospital.
(1) What maternity services are
currently available at Katanning District Hospital?
(2) How many babies have been born
at Katanning District Hospital in the following calendar years —
(a) 2012;
(b) 2013; and
(c) as at 1 June 2014?
(3) If no
services are available at Katanning, at which nearby hospitals can pregnant
women access maternity services, and how much financial assistance is available
to them through the patient assisted travel scheme?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Comprehensive
antenatal and postnatal care is provided by Katanning hospital midwives,
including a home visiting midwifery service.
(2) (a) Twenty-seven.
(b) Four.
(c) Two as at 1 June 2014.
(3) Albany Health
Campus and Narrogin Regional Hospital are the closest hospitals providing
birthing services. The patient assisted travel scheme is provided, and
reimbursement includes a fuel and accommodation subsidy.
