Wild dog action plan
216. Hon Julie Freeman to
the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
I refer to the
recognised biosecurity groups in Western Australia whose funding under the
current wild dog action plan is due to cease on 30 June 2026.
(1) Can the minister please table the wild
dog action plan for 2026 to 2031 and advise when it is expected to receive
ministerial approval and be publicly released?
(2) Will the government commit to
providing ongoing funding to recognised biosecurity groups beyond 30 June
2026 to implement the wild dog action plan?
(3) What
measures is the government undertaking to financially support recognised
biosecurity groups in controlling pests in Western Australia from 30 June
2026 onwards?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The Department of Primary Industries and
Regional Development has been consulting with stakeholders regarding future
management priorities for wild dogs as part of broader vertebrate pest
management in the state. Funding of around $7.5 million is made available
to recognised biosecurity groups for pest management, including wild dog
control activities, from the Declared Pest Account (DPA), which consists of a declared
pest rate and matching state funds. DPA funding at similar levels is expected
to be made available to RBGs next financial year.
