YARRAGADEE AQUIFER - GNANGARA MOUND
I ask this question on behalf of Hon Paul Llewellyn. Given the exposure of the government’s poor compliance with the environmental conditions for pumping water from the Gnangara mound and its failure to take early remedial action, I ask - (1) Will the minister now reject the Water Corporation’s request to tap the south west Yarragadee aquifer? (2) If not, what steps will the minister take to regain public confidence in the government’s ability to manage water resources sustainability? Hon KIM CHANCE

I regret that I do not have the question. Hon Giz Watson : It is dated 3 April from Hon Paul Llewellyn. Hon KIM CHANCE : I am sorry; I did not hear the honourable member say that. The PRESIDENT : Order! I appreciate the points being made. I did not hear the first part of the question correctly either; otherwise, I may have made an observation. Hon KIM CHANCE : I thank both Hon Giz Watson and Hon Paul Llewellyn. How many parts? The PRESIDENT : Order! If the Leader of the House has an answer, that is fine; if not we will move on. The question appears to be a little argumentative, but I am sure I misheard it. Perhaps the Leader of the House can take his seat. Hon KIM CHANCE : Perhaps I will, Mr President. [See page 1163.] PROSPECTING, EXPLORATION AND MINING TENEMENT APPLICATIONS 181. Hon GEORGE CASH to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Resources: My question is asked on behalf of Hon Norman Moore. What was the number of prospecting, exploration and mining tenement applications respectively at the end of January 2007, including those in reversion process? Hon KIM CHANCE replied: I was surprised to find this in my file because I thought I had answered this question, but perhaps not. Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : You probably have. Hon KIM CHANCE : No; the answer was still in my file. I thank Hon George Cash for asking the question and the Leader of the Opposition for giving notice of it. Details of prospecting exploration and mining lease applications as at the end of January 2007 are: prospecting leases, 4 695; exploration licences, 4 289; and mining leases, 7 477.
