ST JOHN AMBULANCE — PARAMEDICS —
SUICIDES
1033. Hon ADELE FARINA to the minister
representing the Minister for Health:
How many current and former St John
Ambulance paramedics and volunteers must die by suicide before the minister
acknowledges the severity of the problems at St John Ambulance, rather than
playing down the problems, and takes immediate action to give paramedics,
volunteers and their families some indication the government gives a damn; and
makes a decision to terminate the contract with St John Ambulance and take over
delivery of ambulance services in this state, as occurs in other Australian
states?
The PRESIDENT : There are imputations in that question
that make it very borderline. If the minister wants to answer it, I will give
the call to the Minister for Planning.

AnswerView source ↗

Thank you, Mr President. I do have
an answer, but I think that, really, that type of question is quite
unnecessary. I do have an answer; the minister has kindly provided an answer to
that question.
The Minister for Health acknowledges
the importance of paramedic and volunteer wellbeing and the significance of the
report findings, which are being given thorough consideration by St John
Ambulance, the Department of Health and the government.
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : Order, members! I will
ask Hon Martin Pritchard to start, when everybody else has settled down.
