(1) How many laptop, notebook and palm computers from each department and agency within the Attorney General’s portfolios have been reported lost or stolen for the six months to 30 June 2009?
(2) What was the total value of the computers that were lost or stolen?
(3) Did any of these computers contain information that could be regarded as sensitive?
(4) What steps have been taken to ensure that any commercial or sensitive information was not compromised?
(5) Was the loss or theft of any of these computers reported to the police?
(6) If yes to (5), when were these reports made?
(7) Of those reported, what has been the outcome?
(8) If any were not reported to the police, why not?
(9) What steps, if any, have been put into place with a view to eliminating, or at least reducing, these losses?
(10) When were these steps put into place?

(1) Nil.
(2-10) Not applicable
Department of Corrective Services advises:
(1) One Notebook and one Blackberry were reported stolen.
(2)  $1934.60 excluding GST.
(3)  Yes.
(4)  All departmental Notebooks have been configured with a special encrypted folder. Information in the encrypted folder is protected from unauthorised access and is automatically backed up into the Department's main computer network when the notebook is connected to the network.
The information on the Blackberry was disabled and erased remotely.
(5) Yes.
(6) Police reports were made on 23 February 2009 and 1 July 2009.
(7) The items reported have not been recovered. The Blackberry was replaced with a new device.
(8) Not applicable.
(9) Steps are as follows:
(i) All lost and stolen assets are reported to the police, and statutory declarations and consideration of any negligence have been introduced.
(ii) Portable computers are checked regularly to ensure business need and correct configuration.
(10) The steps listed under response (9) were put into place in:
(i) December 2006.
(ii) 2004.
