Hydraulic fracking ban
591. Mr Liam Staltari to
the Premier:
I refer to the WA Labor
Party's newly adopted position this past weekend for hydraulic fracking to be
banned across all of Western Australia.
(1)
Will the Premier rule out implementing a full statewide ban?
(2)
If not, does the Premier accept that implementing a full ban will lead to less
investment and fewer jobs in WA?

The government notes
the policy supported at the WA Labor conference. However, the government's
position on fracking is one that was taken to the 2017 state election. An independent
scientific inquiry led by former Environmental Protection Authority chair Tom Hatton
recommended fracking can occur with appropriate regulations in place. The final
report included 44 recommendations, and the government is now implementing the
recommendations, which include assessment by the EPA and the right of veto for
landholders and traditional owners.
