Health—Radiation therapy services
73. Mr Adam Hort to
the Minister for Health:
What is the minister doing to address the inequity that
cancer patients are experiencing in some parts of Perth, such as patients
in Kalamunda and Mundaring who are forced to choose between travelling every
day to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital or seeking treatment locally, where they
must pay for radiation therapy?

I thank the member for the question. This is an issue that I
have become aware of since becoming the Minister for Health. It is something
that, obviously, we are going to have a look at. There are considerations about
how we might be able to proceed with that, but we will continue to look at what
more we are able to do to support people. We are mindful that in doing that we
do not create situations in which there are federal consequences for the
decisions that we make.
