EATING DISORDERS
958. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
Minister for Mental Health:
My question was
to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health, but I
believe it might have gone to the Minister for Mental Health. I refer to the
2012 working group paper on addressing eating disorders.
(1)
What is the status of the paper in relation to coordination of services,
standardisation of services, allocation of beds, and protocols between public
hospital and private clinics?
(2) Is the
government committed to establishing a statewide service to ensure that the
physical and mental health issues are addressed and people with eating
disorders receive the care they need; and, if not, why not?

I thank the
member for some notice of this question. Indeed it has come to me.
(1) I have seen
the report and asked the Department of Health to implement any aspects of the
report it considers more operational and can move on straightaway that would
lead to improvements in operations. In the meantime, the planning aspects of
the report are being reviewed with an aim to develop a detailed model of care for
an integrated eating disorders service for WA.
(2) The needs
of people with eating disorders will be covered in the 10-year mental health
services plan that will be available for government consideration by April
2014.
