899. Hon Giz Watson to the Attorney General representing the Minister for the Environment:
With regard to the classification of the Lacepede Islands Nature Reserve in the Kimberley -
(1) What is the current classification of these islands?
(2) Did the Environmental Protection Authority Red Book Status Report (1993) and CALM's Nature Conservation Reserves in the Kimberley (1991) recommend a change to class 'A' classification for these islands?
(3) Has this reclassification occurred?
(4) If not, why has it taken so long for these islands to be reclassified?
(5) Has any department objected to the change to an 'A' class status?
(6) Will the Minister for the Environment now act to ensure that these islands are afforded 'A' class conservation status?
