I refer to the Minister’s announcement concerning the testing of Yarragadee aquifer dated March 18 -
(1) What is the estimated volume of water, and who provided the estimate, required to -
(a) create the water recreation facility; and
(b) to maintain the facilities on an annual basis, including the white water rapids?
(2) Will the water extracted from the Yarragadee aquifer be of potable quality?
(3) Will the Minister table the information upon which she relied for her press release stating -
(a) ‘Yarragadee aquifer has never been tested for water quality or drawdown impacts on other aquifers;
(b) testing the Yarragadee required a 600 meter bore; and
(c) accessing the Yarragadee aquifer in Perth’s south east was not likely to affect Perth’s drinking water resources’?
(4) Has the Water and Rivers Commission indicated its support for the proposal to extract Yarragadee water for the Champion Lakes proposal?
(5) Will the Minister table the relevant advice from the Water and Rivers Commission?
(6) If not, why not?
(7) Was the advice sought from the Water Corporation on the proposal?
(8) If so, will the Minister table the Water Corporation’s response?
(9) If not, why not?

(2) Based on professional advice, it is not anticipated the water from the Yarragadee aquifer will be of potable quality. The test bore is being sunk to determine the salinity. (3) (a) This statement relates to the general area of the proposed facility and the south east sector of Perth. (b) This is the estimated location of the aquifer. The estimate is provided upon advice from BBG. (c) Refer to question 2 above. (4) The Commission has been extensively consulted on water supply options and has been involved in the Public Environmental Review steering committee discussions on obtaining a water supply and groundwater modeling. The Commission supports testing the proposed water supply option. (5)to(9) The Commission will provide advice in its submission to the PER. I will provide you with a copy of this advice when available.The Water Corporation has been closely consulted in respect to the proposal and with particular reference to the White Water Park.
